MP Anatol Taranu, deputy president of the National Liberal Party (PNL), asked Thursday on the Parliament's floor the Interior Ministry, the Information and Security Service (SIS) and the general Prosecutor's Office to search the incidents related to 'the Caravan against the Russian Army in Moldova', Info-Prim Neo reports.
Anatol Taranu has asked the SIS to probe the actions of youths from Balti town who attacked the protesters. According to reports they are allegedly members of the Komsomolist organization of the Communists Party from Balti. Taranu says “the youths have committed acts of hooliganism, shouting calls and slogans of inter-ethnic hatred, with possible serious consequences for Moldova's social and political stability”.
“It is well know that the Russian troops stay in Moldova illegally and are perceived by the public as occupational forces, this being also supported by Moldova's officials. Under these circumstances, unconceivable are the actions of the police in Chisinau and Balti, and of Russian speaking youths, who violently hampered the peaceful manifestation of defending Moldova's Constitutional provision concerning the neutrality of the state,” the parliamentarian reasoned his interpellation. “Moldova is on the eve of the electoral year when the number of street actions grows, and there is the danger of street fights as happened in Balti, where the municipal police did not defend the peaceful protesters,” Anatol Taranu added.
Taranu has asked Prosecutor General to take action as to the behavior of the police and of youth groups in Chisinau and Balti, and the Interior Ministry to probe the legality of the police's actions, which, according to Taranu, opposed against peaceful manifestations. The deputy asks to be informed whether penal inquests have been started as to the police officers, and whether the young aggressors from Balti have been identified and punished.
Anatol Taranu was supported by 5 opposition MPs to set up a special parliamentary committee to probe the incidents from Chisinau and Balti. The proposal was rejected.
The Interior Ministry, SIS and the General Prosecutor's Office have two weeks to answer the MP's interpellation.
