The signing of the Association Agreement with the EU will make the Moldovan politicians keep their electoral promises after this autumn’s elections, a group of experts said in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, being quoted by IPN.

Journalist Ion Terguta said the coming legislative elections will be special because the voters will have to choose between the East and the West, while the Association Agreement with the EU will make the Moldovan politicians be more attentive to their electoral promises.

“The signing of the Association Agreement will diminish the appetite of making promises. Those who will sign it will not longer be able to promise and not to do what they promised,” stated Ion Terguta.

Expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Viorica Antonov shared this opinion. According to her, the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU will make the politicians more responsible towards the voters.

“The political responsibility will increase with the signing of the Association Agreement. If the politicians do not assume responsibility for the tasks they must carry out they will lose credibility before the voters,” said Viorica Antonov.

Doctor of Politology Aurelia Peru also considers that the politicians should be more attentive when they make electoral promises because this year’s elections will be rather hot given the geopolitical context. The politicians should also carefully compile the lists of candidates as the voters will want to see in them more professionals than oligarchs who want to come to power in order to promote their interests. The politicians should focus more on the middle class.

On May 28, Parliament agreed that the parliamentary elections will take place on November 30.
