Opinion Poll asserts drop in government’s supporters

If next Sunday, Parliamentary elections would be organised in Moldova, the majority of the population having the right to vote, would participate, the results of the Social Politic Barometer (SPB) OMNIMAS show. The poll was launched in Chisinau, on April 19 by IMAS-Inc Chisinau. According to the opinion poll, 59 % of the respondents say they would participate in elections, while 7% are sure they will not express their constitutional right to vote. The number of persons admitting they will participate constitutes 24%, and of those who would probably not participate amounts to 6%. At the same time, 32.2% of the respondents of the poll say they would vote for the Party of the Communists (PCRM), 4.4% - for “Moldova Noastra” Alliance(MNA), 4% - for the Democrat Party(DPM), 3.9% - for Peoples’ Christian Democrat Party(PCDP), 2.7% - for Social Democracy Party(SDP), 2.3% - for the Social Liberal Party(SLP), 1.9% - for the Social Democrat Party(SDP). The share of “undecided” persons is 37% and 9.2% said they will not vote. Compared with the results of the same poll conducted in February, the CPRM lost 4% of supporters, MNA – 2%, and PCDP – 1%. However, PCRM is the most trustworthy party in the opinion of the majority of respondents (44%), although its popularity index decreased by 6% in one year. 47% do not believe in this party. MNA is trusted by 16%, same result as in February 2006. 63% say they do not trust MNA. PCDP also maintained the number of persons who believe in this party (13%), while 69% say they do not trust the party. At the same time, DPM has registered a slight increase of 1% during one year which settled the trust percentage at 14%, while 64% say they can not trust this party. The Social Political Barometer OMNIMAS was conducted during March 14-23 on a sample of 1091 persons, mainly adult population of Moldova, excepting Transnistria. The margin error constitutes 3%.
