“The elections show that the Communists are still influential. 40% of the population votes for the Communists in elections and thus we cannot neglect the opinion of these people. Therefore, there should be a dialogue with the opposition,” the head of the Public Policy Institute Arcadie Barbarosie said, when asked by Info-Prim Neo to comment on Prime Minister Vlad Filat’s assertion that the termination of the dialogue with the opposition was one of the most serious mistakes made by the ruling alliance,” Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Arcadie Barbarosie, the big problem of the Alliance for European Integration is that it was mainly constituted on ‘against’ not ‘for’. The existence of the alliance is fueled by the PCRM and the slogans used in the elections campaign, like “A Moldova without Communists!”, prove this. “There should be established a dialogue with the Opposition, especially because the head of state cannot be elected. The inappropriate behavior of the opposition is another question,” said Arcadie Barbarosie. He also said that somebody must take the first step and this should be the ruling alliance because it holds a majority of seats in Parliament. Another problem is that not all the leaders of the AEI are accepted by the opposition. “Until now they said the Communists are to blame for the constitutional crisis because they do not want to vote for Marian Lupu. Thus, there should be proposed a candidate who will be accepted by the Communists. But the alliance cannot provide an answer because it got stuck in that agreement, under which Vlad Filat is Prime Minister and Mihai Ghimpu is Head of Parliament after Marian Lupu is elected President,” said Arcadie Barbarosie. The analyst stressed that Moldova’s development partners also urge the ruling alliance to discuss with the opposition. They should submit proposals and reach a compromise, said Arcadie Barbarosie. On July 12 in the evening, Vlad Filat made a public address after he had a series of consultations with society. He said it won’t be him who will split the AEI. He stated that breaking the talks with the opposition was one of the AIE’s big mistakes. “We must find a compromise. We owe this to those who voted for the Alliance and to the 40% who voted for the opposition,” Filat said, adding the meeting he had with the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin is a proof that there can be a dialogue that will help end the crisis.
