The operational area of the North Bus Station in Chisinau has been extended two times. It will now include a new departure/arrival platform and a parking lot for private units of transport. Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Vasile Botnari, while on an inspection visit to the facility, announced that the platform will be ready by the end of October, IPN reports.

“The North Bus Station could not cope with the demand and the extension of its capacity was a necessary measure. The carriers were dissatisfied as they had limited time to take passengers on. The available 1.2 hectares weren’t fully used and it was a real waste dump there,” Vasile Botnari said after inspecting the works performed there.

The investments at the first stage of the project to modernize and extend the North Bus Station, which is managed by the Ministry, add to 8 million lei. They are made by the station from its own sources.

“This year we will finish the first stage of the project. Afterward, we will extend the terminal’s infrastructure and will erect a new building with waiting hall, booking offices, public amenities, etc. We will also take out loans. The cost of the investment is 13 million lei,” stated Vasile Botnari.

The project to extend the North Bus Station has been launched this June. Until now, there was built a parking lot of 240 places for private units of transport and a platform with 22 departure/arrival places for international routes. By the end of October, the platform will be roofed.
