Only one Moldovan female tennis player competing for “Dmitrie Sturza Trophy”

Moldova remained only with one female tennis player in the international tournament “Dmitrie Sturza Trophy” that is held in Chisinau this week. Cristina Bucsa qualified for the second round after beating Sadafmoh Tolibova from Belarus 7-6, 6-4, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the next round, Cristina meets Romania’s Ana Bianca Mihaila. The other members of the Moldovan women’s tennis team - Alina Soltanici, Alisa Martynov, Ana Testemitsanu, and Daniela Ciobanu – were eliminated from the tournament. In the men’s competition, Moldovan Alexandru Cozbinov qualified for quarterfinals after defeating British man Callum Poland-Smith 6-4, 6-3 on February 14. Cozbinov will compete for a place in semifinals against Poland’s Kamil Gajewski. The international tournament “Dmitrie Sturza Trophy” has been organized in Chisinau since 2000. The last time the Moldovan tennis players were victorious at this competition in 2011, when Maxim Dubarenco became the winner. In the previous competitions, Moldova’s champions were Andrei Gorban, Alexandru Andronachi, Denis Molceanov, and Radu Albot.
