It is seven years since the first service in sign language was held, but the bishop of “Inima Tacuta” Church based in Chisinau, Viorel Cojocaru, remains the only priest who delivers the Word of God to the people with hearing impairments. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Viorel Cojocaru said that the church has about 1,000 parishioners, 500 of whom come to the church regularly. The bishop learned the sign language at a theological seminar in Romania’s Pitesti because there is no such specialty in Moldova. The priest said there are hearing-impaired young people who want to help hold religious ceremonies in sign language. Two of them were sent to Pitesti to learn this language.
