Only in Moldova people are 'tried' and 'convicted' of espionage for Moldova, NGO

Promo-Lex Association calls on the participants in the talks in the 5+2 format to immediately initiate procedures for creating legal institutions that would defend the constitutional rights of the Transnistrians. The call was made following the sentencing of Ilie Cazac to 14 years in jail for spying for Moldova by the Transnistrian authorities, Info-Prim Neo reports. Promo-Lex says the situation of the two political detainees - Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac – is deplorable. In a communique, the Association says that this is a unique case, impossible in other countries, when Moldovan people are 'arrested', 'tried' and 'convicted' by citizens of Moldova for espionage for Moldova. “It is revolting that the constitutional authorities have witnessed this humiliating situation during about a year and have done nothing. They only make formal and banal statements about the progress made in the negotiations and the dialogue. It is irresponsible to ask the international community to take steps and make effort at a time when the competent and governmental institutions of Moldova do not propose discussing, adopting and implementing a strategy for reunifying the country,” it is said in the communique. Promo-Lex demands that Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac be immediately and unconditionally released and that all the persons involved in kidnapping of persons be held accountable in accordance with the legislation of Moldova.
