The staff of “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) is concerned about the state of the patients with COVID-19 and the complications that appear as a result of infection, while their hopes are tied only to the administration of the vaccine, the University’s rector Emil Ceban stated in a teleconference, being quoted by IPN.

According to him, only immunization can save the population from the virus. The vaccine will help to reduce the number of serious cases. Emil Ceban gave the example of such countries as Israel, Germany, the UK, and Ireland that are restarting the economy, reopening schools and allowing travel abroad as a result of mass vaccination.

Emil Ceban said the USMF made common cause with the Ministry of Health as regards the vaccination campaign. “The higher is the number of vaccinated people for developing collective immunity, the faster will we return to a normal way of life at personal and social levels,” stated the expert.

The epidemiological situation caused by COVID-19 is unprecedented in the world and in Moldova too. Multiple public health actions were taken to protect the population’s life. The USMF since the first day of the pandemic has taken part in the promotion of the prevention measures. The education process was moved to the online environment, the sick people are being monitored at home, etc. The academia became involved in the drafting of clinical protocols, working out of treatment guidelines, stated Emil Ceban.

Moldova passed the level of 200,000 infections with the novel coronavirus. The death toll from COVID-19 stands at over 4,420.
