Only 50.9% of the primary schools in Moldova have medical units incorporated in them, show statistical data. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Deputy Minister of Education Tatiana Poting said that the Ministry of Education is aware of such a situation, but it is the local public authorities that bear the responsibility for it. The deputy minister stated that the problem may reside in the lack of financial resources, but also in the shortage of medical staff. The students of the schools that do not have medical units are examined by the local family doctor. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 78.5% of the secondary schools and 96.9% of the lyceums have medical units. Also, only 50.9% of the primary schools have gymnasiums. Libraries are available in 81.5% of the primary schools, 98.6% of the secondary schools, and 99.2% of the lyceums. At the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year, there were 1,394 general primary and secondary education institutions in Moldova.
