Only 3 fountains will be functioning in Chisinau

Starting 23 April, the fountains from the public garden “Stefan cel Mare”, the one in front of the Railway Station and the one near the cinema “Columna” of district Botanica will start their activity. The head of Green Spaces Management Association of the capital, Grigore Taban, said that only the fountain of the public garden would work the whole week, between 10.00 - 20.00, except Monday, when prophylaxis works have to be done. The other two fountains will work only on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, because of financial problems. According to Taban, the fountain in front of the Opera and Ballet Theatre will not be functional for the moment, as last year not all works were finished. There are 17 fountains in the capital and the majority of them aren’t functioning for 15 years, their managing being rather expensive for the municipality, Grigore Taban mentioned. Only for these three fountains it was spent about 1 million lei last year. In the social-economic development program of Chisinau for 2006, which shall be approved by Chisinau Municipal Council, was included the reconstruction of 5 fountains of the center of the capital, including the one of public garden “Stefan cel Mare” and the one of the park of Cathedral “Nasterea Domnului”. The cost amount to about 10 million lei.
