Only 19% of Transnistrians want Moldova to join EU, poll

If a referendum on Moldova's entry into the European Union was held, only 19% of the Transnistrians would vote in favor, shows a sociological poll conducted by the Association of Demographers and Sociologists of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the poll, 39% of the Transnistrians would vote against. At the same time, 63% of the respondents living on the right bank of the Nistru said they are for Moldova's entry into the EU and only 15% said they would vote against. The same survey shows 7% of the people living on the right bank of the Nistru and 24% of those living on the right bank would vote for joining NATO. 52% of the Transnistrians and 38% of the respondents who live on the right bank of the Nistru said they are against. The rest of the respondents did not want or could not answer this question. The poll was carried out between November 11 and 20 and covered a sample of 1,593 persons living on the right bank of the Nistru and 618 persons living on the left bank. The margin of sampling error oscillates between 2.6% and 3%. The survey forms part of the feasibility studies made within the Settlement of the Transnistrian Dispute by Restoring the Confidence of the People Living on the Banks of the Nistru River Project.
