The website alegeri.md promises to offer “all the information” pertaining to the October 20 local elections.
“We provide an overview and below users can see the pre-election context. This context, which included a dual power situation for at least a week (in June), could have an impact on the local elections, because, for instance, PDM says that the Prosecutor General’s Office’s probe into the so-called usurpation amounts to pressure exerted on the party,” says Igor Boțan, director of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT).
A separate compartment is dedicated to electoral legislation and legal issues. It contains information about the amendments passed to the Electoral Code on August 15, provisions on party and campaign financing and gender equality requirements.
A further compartment is devoted to electoral competitors, with 23 parties of the existing 46 participating in the current elections.
The website also offers detailed information about the campaign contributions and expenses declared by the competitors, with the Renato Usatii’s Our Party being the leader in terms of contributions, and the Socialists the biggest spenders.
Yet another compartment is dedicated to opinion polls. “We have collected all the polls that we consider offer credible insights into voter preferences,” said Igor Boțan.
