“Onisifor Ghibu” Library has celebrated on Thursday, May 31, its 15th anniversary. It has become by now an important cultural centre that hosts public discussions about Romanian traditions and history.
On this occasion, the director of the Bucharest Metropolitan Library, Florin Rotaru, one of the founders of the Onisifor Ghibu Library, has donated nearly 2,000 books.
According to the director of “O. Ghibu” Library, Elena Vulpe, this is not the first donation coming from the Metropolitan Library, as well as from other Romanian institutions. In this way, the library’s stock, containing nearly 50,000 titles, is mainly (90%) consisting of donations from Romania, while the Moldovan publishing houses contributed only 10%.
The anniversary, says Elena Vulpe, is taking place concurrently with the “Ghibu Days” and the 125th birth anniversary of Nicolae Titulescu – a great Romanian politician and diplomat. On this occasion, the library held several cultural events dedicated to these remarkable personalities of the Romanian culture: the presentation “A library symbolising a country”; the historical symposium “Nicolae Titulescu and Europe”, a book presentation, an exhibition of photography art. These ceremonies were visited by high officials from both banks of the Prut River.
