A child aged one year was rushed to the hospital with head injury after this was hit by a falling branch on the territory of the Chisinau Zoological Garden in the afternoon of May 21.

Tatiana Stoichev, press officer of the Municipal Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenko” of Chisinau, has told IPN that the state of the child is serious, but stable. This will be in intensive care during four-five days. The child was diagnosed with head injury, contusion and epidural hematoma. Surgery hasn’t been necessary so far.

Director of the Chisinau Zoological Garden Alexei Hantatuc has told IPN that the branch that hit the child was weighed after the incident. This weighs only 20 grams, but fell from great height and thus caused injuries.

Alexei Hantatuc also said that the trees on the territory of the Zoological Garden were clipped after the late April snowfalls. The Zoo could be closed to visitors until the circumstances of the incident are elucidated.
