An effort of one year is enough to put into practice a convincing reunification policy and there is no need to spend five years on working out a strategy for reunifying the country, considers the executive director of the Foreign Policy Association (APE) Victor Chirila. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN, Victor Chirila said a reunification policy is needed with well-defined institutional mechanisms and with financial resources that now do not exist.

“Convincing first of all for the people from the right bank of the Nistru. We need a policy that would be accepted by a large part of our society from the Transnistrian region. This policy should be a long-lasting one and should envision the gradual integration of the Transnistrian region with the Republic of Moldova, the reorganization of the economic, political and legal spheres. This will take time. Therefore, a precipitated solution would have the effect of a bomb that will produce very disastrous outcomes for the Republic of Moldova,” stated Victor Chirila.

The APE director also said that besides a reunification policy with clear institutional mechanisms, we also need the solidarity of the political class and the people. “From my viewpoint, the current dialogue can solve particular circumstantial problems, but is unable to unblock the political negotiations on the status of the Transnistrian region within the Republic of Moldova or on security-related issues, which are very important for maintaining stability in the region,” he stated.

He noted that the dialogue between the Moldovan authorities and the Transnistrian administration is necessary because there are many problems referring to the people from both sides of the Nistru and these economic, social and legal problems must be solved, but this can be cone only if there is dialogue.
