One third of schools in Chisinau ready for new academic year

The repair works at one third of the preuniversity education institutions in the municipality of Chisinau have been completed. At the rest of the schools, the works will be finished in the second half of August. “The halls and libraries of all the schools must be renovated. The roofs, windows, sanitary equipment and water pipes of some of them must be changed. We must make effort so that the education institutions are ready by August 20 and commissions check how the repair works were executed,” the head of the Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said on Monday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca demanded carrying out unplanned inspections at schools during and after the repair works. “We should not wait for cases of food poisoning to happen or parts of roofs to start to fall before initiating inspections. If irregularities are identified during unplanned inspections, the explanations will have to be provided publicly. Thus, the services should think better how they act,” said the mayor. In the municipality of Chisinau, there are 144 schools and 151 kindergartens. A sum of 20 million lei was allocated this year to the education institutions from the municipal budget for repair works. Extensive repair works are performed at 80 institutions within a European project. The windows at five of them will be replaced completely.
