More than 17,000 people are to be admitted to higher education (bachelor’s degree) for the 2016-2017 academic year. Slightly over one third of the places at universities are budget-funded, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Education says that entrants will be admitted to 170 specialties. The number of places at universities is by 35% lower than last year owing to the reduction in the number of lyceum graduates.

As many as 7,377 persons will be admitted to master’s studies, a decline of 6% on 2015, while 532 persons will be enrolled at residency studies. Most of the places are budget-funded given that that Education Code provides for residency studies for the mandatory professional formation of doctors and druggists.

For honoring Moldova’s obligations within bilateral contracts with other countries, 325 foreigners will be admitted to bachelor’s and master’s degrees studies. Thirty foreigners will receive academic mobility scholarships to study in Moldova within the European Commission’s program Erasmus+.

Admission to universities will take place between July 25 and August 1. The results will be made public on August 4.
