One third of the national roads and 70% of the local roads are damaged, shows a report by the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure. Most of the times, the poor quality of the roads causes a large number of fatal traffic accidents, representatives of the National Patrolling Inspectorate said when presenting the report, IPN reports.

The Ministry’s data show that only 89% of the necessary traffic signs are present on the national roads. The figures for the local roads are similar. Horizontal road markings were performed on 52% of the total length of the national roads and on 1.8% of the length of the local roads.

As a result of the performed inspections, the National Patrolling Inspectorate proposed building pedestrian parapets in dangerous places, illuminating at night the road sectors and streets where many accidents happen, constructing artificial humps and transversal resonating strips in these sectors.

It also suggested dismantling the billboards placed in breach of the Law on Roads and working out new technical passports of the national and local roads.
