After a break of more than a year, one of the trains renovated in Romania has been put back on the line today, running in a trial mode on the route linking Chisinau to the town of Ungheni on the border with Romania, IPN reports.
The fares on the Chisinau-Ungheni route range from 22 to 49 lei depending on class. In the future, it is planned to extend the route to the Romanian city of Iasi.
Attending the event, Transport Minister Iurie Chirinciuc said the train underwent a thorough overhaul inspection. He assured that none of the four trains inspected showed any technical problems and guaranteed safety for the passengers.
When asked why these trains had stood idle until now, Minister Chirinciuc said this is a question for the former leadership, suggesting that political motives were behind.
The fifth train is under repair after catching fire last year.
A Romanian firm based in Pascani renovated the trains several years ago. They ran until one of the engines caught fire in March 2014.
