One of the tasks of the mixed electoral system was to separate the protesting voters as these voters who are dissatisfied with what has happened in the country during the past five-six years will have the decisive say in the upcoming parliamentary elections, executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives Vlad Kulminski was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel.

“If we in the current election campaign speak about the country development plans, ideology, goals and common tasks for society and the country, the ruling party would fail with such an agenda. That’s why the protesting voters had to be dispersed and 52 campaigns plus a referendum had to be staged instead of one clear national campaign,” stated Vlad Kulminski.

Socialist councilor on the Chisinau Municipal Council Stas Vartanean said the current campaign is an occasion for returning to normality. However, there are political forces and potential candidates whose task is to create a kind of jamming. The task of a number of independent candidates is to attract votes from the main candidates. “The opposition of the right and of the left hopes to enjoy popular support and that it will be able to explain to the people  that a large number of clones, spoilers and independent candidates, who must steal votes, will exist in the current campaign,” stated the politician.

Political analyst Corneliu Ciurea said the new electoral system based on which the upcoming parliamentary elections will be held offers new possibilities to the opposition parties and the ruling party, to party candidates and independents. The rules of the game in the campaign cannot be equal for everyone, but it will be clear after February 24 for whom they were more convenient. “I can say that the power can use these new rules of the game in a democratic way in its favor, but whether they will manage to do it or not is a big question,” stated Corneliu Ciurea.

The parliamentary elections will take place on February 24, 2019.
