One of the minor cyclists who were struck by a car not far from Stăucenia commune of Chisinau municiplaitry died in the hopsital. This is the teen who was in a coma. The death was announced by the boy’s father.
The teen was admitted to the Neurology and Neurosurgery Institute “Diomid Gherman”. Contacted by IPN for details, the spokeswoman for the institution Dorina Blîndescu said the death was stated at about 09:40am. The brain died as a result of the injuries sustained by the boy in the accident.
The 13-year-old boys riding bicycles were hit by a car not far from Stăuceni commune on Tuesday afternoon. According to the police, the children were equipped appropriately. One of them was hospitalized in a coma in a serious state. The second child suffered a concussion and a clavicle fracture. Eyewitnesses said the 48-year-old driver tried to overtake another vehicle by the verge used by the two cyclists. The driver was arrested.
Representatives of the Cycling Federation of the Republic of Moldova and activists of other relevant associations say they have struggled for years for the traffic rules and road infrastructure to be adjusted so that all the participants feel safe in traffic. They ask for clear separation of the roadway from cycling tracks and for introducing an obligatory minimum distance between a car and a cyclist and penalties for its violation.
