A 23-year-old man who killed a woman and a child in Vulcanesti together with a friend of his was sentenced to 25 years behind bars. He was also obliged by the court to pay over 400,000 lei damages to the successor of the victims, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In July 2012, the young men planned to steal goods from the relatives of one of them. While on a visit to those relatives, the men stabbed to death the hosts – the mother aged 33 and her nine-year-old daughter. Afterward, they stole money and possessions to the value of over 24,000 lei. They paid a taxi driver to take them out of the country, but were arrested several days later while still on Moldova’s territory. The two admitted their guilt and related in details how they committed the crime.

One of the murderers strangled himself in the penitentiary before the court passed judgment. The other man got 25 years in jail for intentional murder and robbery.

The relatives of the man who killed himself in prison asked rehabilitating him, saying he was not to blame. The investigation into his case goes on.

During the investigation, it was established that two persons who were relatives of the culprits and the victims tried to mislead the prosecution body and were thus fined by 4,000 lei for favoring the offense. The taxi driver was also found guilty of favoring the offense and was fined 6,000 lei.

The prosecutors appealed the sentences to a higher court, asking for harsher punishments.
