The Ministry of Health said one more woman died from flu-related complications in Telenesti district.  According to deputy minister Aliona Serbulenco, the 55-year-old woman suffered also from hepatitis and cardiomyopathy and went to see a doctor too late. The information was made public in a working meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for social matters Gheorghe Brega, IPN reports.

Several days ago, a woman aged 67 also from Telenesti district died after developing complications of AH1N1 influenza. According to the deputy minister, the women are from different villages and there is no connection between them.

Aliona Serbulenco said that 155 cases of AH1N1 flu and one case of type B flu were confirmed in the country so far. “The ratio now is 279 cases of respiratory infections per 100,000 people, which is much below the epidemiological ceiling. We expect a rise in the number of cases over the next two-three weeks. The epidemiological ceiling can be reached, but it will be anyway a low, average, high or very high ceiling,” she stated.

According to the official, the Republic of Moldova was provided with 150,000 flu shots by European partners. “Today we speak about a vaccination rate of almost 100%. But I would call on the people who catch respiratory infections to go and see a doctor when the first symptoms appear and not to treat themselves at home,” she stated.

Aliona Serbulenco noted that when many cases of flu are recorded in schools and nurseries, the access to institution must be limited. The rooms and classrooms must be well aired and disinfected.

The parents are recommended to call the family doctor at home when children become infected and avoid going to the hospital.
