Exhibitions containing rare books written by Mihai Eminescu, biographical information and paintings on the Eminescian theme will be open for a month at the National Library of Moldova. The exhibits form part of the National Day of Culture that is celebrated annually on January 15, when it is poet Mihai Eminescu’s birthday, IPN reports.

In the opening of the exhibition “Eminescian Values”, staged by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau, the Institute’s director Valeriu Matei said that Eminescu is not a figure of the past as the problems addressed by him in his works are still topical.

This exhibition was conceived as an iconographic analysis and is intended mainly for young people. Valeriu Matei is convinced that the students who will visit the exhibitions centering on Eminescu will gain knowledge that will help them in the Baccalaureate exams. The young people can also learn to write love poems by analyzing the poet’s correspondence with Veronica Micle.

The president of the Writers Union of Moldova Arcadie Suceveanu said that Eminescu is one of the great creators of the world and his value remains unchanged, regardless of the epoch in which the poet’s works are read.

The National Library will also host an exhibition of paintings by Ion Daghi entitled “Eminescu in philosophy”. The 39 paintings present Mihai Eminescu in each of his 39 years of life.
