One fourth of Moldovans see Vladimir Voronin as President, study

If Moldova’s President was elected by direct vote, by the people, most of the voters would choose the leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin, who would win 25% of the poll, shows a survey whose results were presented in a news conference at IPN. 

The research was conducted by the Sociological Research and Branding Company of Romania, being commissioned by Moldova businessman Renato Usatyi, who settled in Russia.

8% of the respondents would vote for current Prime Minister Iurie Leanca as President, 6% – for the chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu, while 5% for the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat. 2% of those polled would vote for President Nicolae Timofti, while another 2% for Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca.

Vladimir Voronin also heads the rankings of the most famous people. 99% of those questioned said they know the Communist leader best. 98% know Vlad Filat, 97% - Nicolae Timofti, Marian Lupu, Mihai Ghimpu and Dorin Chirtoaca, while 83% - Iurie Leanca.

Vladimir Voronin is trusted by 37% of the respondents. He is followed by Iurie Leanca (36%), Dorin Chirtoaca (31%) and Marian Lupu (25%). 20% of those polled trust Vlad Filat, while 17% - Nicolae Timofti.

The survey was carried out between November 2 and November 12 and covered a sample of 1,077 people from 61 settlements. The margin of sampling error is 3%.
