One foreign and six Moldovan journalists file complaints over April abuses

Six Moldovan journalists and a foreign correspondent whose rights were violated during the April 6-10 events lodged legal complaints with the relevant bodies with the help of the Independent Journalism Center. They demand that the persons that committed the abuses are identified and punished, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release from the Center. The editor-in-chief of the publication Jurnal de Chisinau Rodica Mahu, who was kidnapped by policemen dressed in civvies on April 10, four reporters from Ziarul de Garda, who were ill-treated by police officers on April 8, and the cameraman of Jurnal TV Oleg Brega, who was beaten in the backyard of the Government and his two cameras were stolen benefit from free legal assistance. According to the press release, another case that the Independent Journalism Center helps to solve involves the correspondent of TVR in Chisinau Doru Dendiu, who was illegally arrested on April 10 and his accreditation permit was withdrawn. “In order to restore the rights and hold the persons that violated them accountable, the mentioned journalists submitted applications to the relevant institutions that are to investigate the cases and identify the persons that committed the abuses,” the communiqué says. Doru Dendiu demands that his right to do his job as foreign journalist in Moldova be restored.
