The Moldovan internet surfers are disappointed with the present political class. This is the conclusion reached by the authors of a pilot-project called “The virtual parliament 2009.md,” carried out by New Media Group (NMG).
“This thing is proved by the fact that the well-known politicians, as Dumitru Diacov, Dumitru Braghis or Voronin, have not collected the needed number of votes to enter the virtual parliament,” Tudor Darie, the NMG’s general director stated on Friday, December 26, at a news conference hosted by Info-Prim Neo .
“The results of the project represent a no-trust vote to the present political class and also a vote in the support of a new generation of politicians,” Tudor Darie added.
The Virtual Parliament has less known people for the large public on its first 5 places, and about 35 of 101 deputies are politically non-affiliated. The Liberal Democratic Party got 18 mandates, Moldova Noastra Alliance – 11, the National Liberal Party – 10, the Liberal Party – 7, the Democratic Party – 6, the People’s Christian Democratic Party – 4, the European Action Movement – 4, the Social Democratic Party – 3. The Centrist Union, the Communist Party and the People’s Republican Party got by a seat each.
Among the virtual deputies, 73 are men.
The parties’ representatives have been announced in advance of unfolding the “on-line elections.” The small percentage score got by some parties is due to a reduced on-line presence of these parties, the project’s organizers consider.
The Virtual Parliament was voted by 6,000 Moldovan Internet users, who previously had also the opportunity to propose candidates. The voting system has been carried out by an international mobile telephony company. The project’s goal was to find the people which the on-line public considers worthy of representing it in the Parliament. The project’s results are not representative for the whole electorate of Moldova.
