July 29 marks 18 years since the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. A congratulating message from Alexandru Tanase, president of the Constitutional Court (CC), says that the 18th anniversary of the Constitution is an opportunity to recall that the adoption of the supreme Law set the basis for founding our democracy and rule of Law. In all this time the fundamental Law proved itself to be a body of principles and norms that opened the way to strengthening the values of a rule of Law and of the market economy, a warrant of fundamental human rights, as well as of the functioning of the basic State institutions, offering the proper framework for instructing a government based on the vital rights of humanity: life, freedom, and pursuit of happiness, reports Info-Prim Neo. The message also specifies that the Constitution of Moldova is the most authoritative document in regulating the public, political, and social matters of our country. The CC president claims that the historical significance of adopting the Constitution cannot be ignored. Adopting the Constitution pivoted the new independent republic, which just emerged from conflict with the separatist forces from the left bank of the Nistru. “A symbol of the people’s struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights, the Constitution reminds every citizen of their holy duty to faithfully serve their country, to defend at any cost the unity, sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova”. According to Alexandru Tanase, Constitution Day is an occasion to celebrate democracy not only as a political system, but as a lifestyle as well. The fundamental values written in the Constitution obligate Moldovan citizens to constantly work at strengthening and developing these values, for, says the CC president, liberty and human rights are not privileges, but a reward to those who honor and defend them. With the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Constitution, on behalf of himself and the Constitutional Court, Alexandru Tanase wishes everyone peace and prosperity, advises them to abide by the notion of rule of Law and the supremacy of Law in all their endeavors, and to contribute to the building of a society governed by justice and truth, and conscientiously respect the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova.
