The authorities intend to launch a new program – First Home PLUS. It will benefit a larger number of young people, not only civil servants. The maximum ceiling for purchasing homes and the state guarantee were increased. President Maia Sandu announced this on Wednesday, May 15, sending a congratulatory message on the occasion of the International Day of Families, IPN reports.

“Today, on the International Day of Families, we celebrate families and we want to have as many happy families as possible here at home, in the Republic of Moldova. For the purpose, we need to improve living conditions. In the many discussions I have in villages and cities across the country, the young people often talk about dwellings. It is quite difficult for many of them to raise money for a cottage or to buy an apartment,” said the head of state.

President Sandu noted that she discussed with the Government to extend the First Home program and come up with a new program – First Home PLUS. This would give more young people access to resources. The executive will examine the possibility of increasing the size of the guarantee provided by the state under this program.

“We want to see as many young people as possible settling here, at home, starting families and raising their children happily,” said Maia Sandu.

The state program First Home was launched in March 2018, and over 8,000 people so far have managed to buy a home. According to the Ministry of Finance, out of over 8,000 beneficiaries, more than 5,600 are families and over 2,500 are unmarried young people. The average age of beneficiaries is 31 years.
