A number of 34 students who won places at different Olympiads were awarded at the sixth, Olympiad Winners Gala 2012 on December 21. The money awards varied between 400 lei and 25,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Education Maia Sandu said the aspirations to victory and the good preparation are the key to success in life. “It is our obligation to crate conditions for all the students to work. It is very important to show at international level that we are competitive and to stimulate the students to achieve such results. My message to the students is ‘be perseverant, learn and don’t renounce the vocation’,” she stated.
Asked by journalists how the Moldovan authorities should support these students so that they do not leave the country, Maia Sandu said the education programs should be adjusted to the market demands and the quality of education should be improved by applicative knowledge. “The state supported financially these children so that they could take part in international contests,” stated the minister.
A sum of 290,000 lei was allocated from the state budget for the prizes for students and 250,000 lei for the prizes for teachers who prepared the students.
