MP Olesea Stamate (PAS) announced her intention to resign as chair of Parliament’s Legal Commission.

“Over the past few years I have fully dedicated myself to the public interest, in particular, to the modernization of the justice sector. I led the Ministry of Justice, I consulted President Maia Sandu, and since 2021 I have been chairing the Legal Commission in Parliament. Good things are achieved through a lot of work and dedication and together with the team members”, Stamate posted on Facebook on Friday evening.

“I have made the decision to step down as chair of the Legal Commission starting on February 1. I intend to focus more on lawmaking rather than on organizational processes. At the same time, it is also an opportunity for me to dedicate more time to my children and family”, she added.

“I am glad that in recent years I have been a part of a team of people who share the same aspirations as me: to build a justice system in the interest of the citizen, in defense of the state, but not of the corrupt people, criminals and interest groups. I know this is a complicated process that takes a lot of time and a lot of obstacles to overcome. But once this purging mechanism is started, it shall be completed”, Stamate added in her post.
