Moldova’s former Ambassador to Germany Oleg Serebrian was presented as the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration. He took the oath of office inside the Presidential Palace, in the presence of President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, IPN reports.

President Sandu thanked Oleg Serebrian for accepting to be responsible for an area that is not at all simple. She expressed her conviction that his diplomatic experience and knowledge of the realities in Moldova and of the situation in the region will help him cope with this professional challenge. “For us, the wellbeing of the citizens, either those from the right side or those from the left side, is the most important one. Our citizens from the right bank and from the left bank need medical and education services of a high quality and need to know that we have a justice system that ensures the observance of all the rights,” said the official.

“Surely, when we speak about this area, we speak about our task of finding a peaceful, diplomatic solution to the Transnistrian conflict, which would respect the integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and would ensure a functional state.”

For her part, Natalia Gavrilița said Oleg Serebrian is a diplomat with a rich experience and a sensible interlocutor. These qualities are necessary for managing this complex area during a difficult period of time. The main objective is to ensure the wellbeing of the Moldovan citizens from both sides of the Nistru. “In all the decisions taken in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, we must safeguard the interests of the citizens and the national interest, in consultation with all the interested sides and in agreement with our international partners,” stated the Premier.

Oleg Serebrian is a Moldovan expert in political science, writer, diplomat and politician. In 2012, he was conferred the Special Award of the Writers Union of Moldova for the novel “The Song of the Sea”. Since 2013, he has been a member of the Writers Union of Moldova.

The post of Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration fell vacant after Vladislav Kulminski resigned at the start of last November, citing personal reasons.
