The lack of gas in the Transnistrian region can trigger a humanitarian crisis as 97% of the region's inhabitants are connected to the gas network and do not use other types of fuel, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian stated in the program “Resumé” on RliveTV. According to the official, in the event that Gazprom stops gas supplies to the left bank of the Nistru, Chisinau's first actions will be aimed at providing the region's residents with food, medicines and basic necessities, IPN reports.

"For years, no one has been using other types of fuel or heating methods there. And it's not just about public spaces, but even about individual households. These people will be faced with a completely new situation. Electricity on the left side of the Nistru does not solve all problems," said Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian.

The official noted that the Moldovan authorities are in talks with foreign partners to support the population of the Transnistrian region, especially in terms of the supply of food, medicines and other basic necessities.

"The state of emergency helps us to create green corridors so that humanitarian aid can quickly reach recipients on the left side," said Deputy Premier Oleg Serebrian.

According to official data, 340,000 people live in the Transnistrian region. Recently, the self-styled authorities in Tiraspol announced that, in the event that gas supplies are stopped, the charges for public utilities for the citizens in the region will not change, and the salaries and pensions will be paid as usual.
