Oleg Serebrian, the president of the European Movement of Moldova (MEM), denies having said that Moldova as a state is a “failed project” as the Romanian press and then the Moldovan press reported. He said he would not sue the Romanian news agency, but stressed he was saddened by the interpretations of the Moldovan press, Info-Prim Neo reports.
On November 16, the Romanian new agency Agerpres reported that during debates themed “Moldova between Eternal Neighborhood and European Integration” held at the Library of the Romanian Academy, the Democratic MP Oleg Serebrian said that Moldova was a failed project.
”It seems unethical to me to take phases out of context and try to create a political campaign in Moldova on the basis of them,” Serebrian said during a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo, adding he attended the debates as president of the MEM, not as first vice president of the PDM.
Serebrian also said that the title of his report “Is Moldova a Failed State or Not?” contained a rhetorical question, not an ascertained fact.
”As the former head of state and the leader of the Opposition party uses such an enthusiastic and exciting vocabulary to describe his political opponents at news conferences, being admired by a large part of the society in Moldova, I wonder whether this population is not failed morally at least,” Serebrian said.
According to Agerpres, Oleg Serebrian considers that “we should follow the example of Austria and Germany so that the EU, Moldova and Romania become united in due course.”
”I did not speak about Moldova’s disappearance, but about the type of relations that can exist between Moldova and the neighboring state,” Serebrian said, stressing that Moldova and Romania would form part of the same European Union when time comes.
