Oleg Sarghi becomes European weightlifting champion

Moldovan athlete Oleg Sarghi on April 11 won a gold medal in the European Weightlifting Championship held in Russia. He lifted 262 kg in the 56kg class. After the snatch, the Moldovan weightlifter was the eighth, but managed to lift 150 kg in the clean and jerk and thus won the European title. This is the best result achieved by the 23-year-old sportsman. Moldovan athlete Ghenadie Dudoglo ranked sixth with the result of 250 kg in the same class. He was the third in the snatch, but was less successful in the clean and jerk. In the women’s competition, the only representative of Moldova Cristina Iovu finished seventh in the 48kg class. Six more Moldovan athletes are to compete in the European Weightlifting Championship in Russia.
