The people are tired of hearing about operations aimed at combating corruption, including arrests in the act. They now want more daring actions and loud convictions, Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim said in a meeting with journalists centering on the justice sector reform, IPN reports.

The official said that unlike 2011, it’s now easier to promote bills to reform justice owing to the pressure exerted by society, which intensified after increased attention started to be devoted to this sector.

Oleg Efrim stated that the Government now has no obligation to the judicial system, the reform being under way. Changes are expected to be made by judges. It’s not right to expect the whole legal system to be reformed by law as many aspects are related to the human factor and to mentality.

In the states with advanced democracy, a judge or a prosecutor whose behavior runs counter to the professional ethics tenders his resignation. “I think the behavior of a judge or a prosecutor must be different from that of the ordinary people. There should be discipline,” said the minister.

The official also spoke about the conviction of public figures in Romania, saying the reform in the justice sector in the neighboring state began in 2004-2005 and the first results appeared in several years. The situation in Moldova can be much the same.

According to Oleg Efrim, justice is an area that cannot often have high performance indicators. However, according to the latest assessments, the reform is done correctly and the ordinary people already feel the improvements.

The justice sector reform strategy for 2011-2016 is implemented according to plan. The EU decided to allocate €60 million for supporting it.
