Public activist Oleg Brega, who earlier announced his intention to run for the office of President of Moldova, changed his mind. In a message on a social networking site, Brega explains that the electoral period preceding the presidential elections has been discredited from the start and he therefore decided not to run, IPN reports.
According to Oleg Brega, the electoral period was discredited because the central electoral authority accepted the signatures of the Democratic Party’s candidate Marian Lupu, who would have collected about 29,000 signatures during only several hours. It is yet impossible to collect so many signatures during only three hours given that the mayor’s offices do not work on Saturdays. “Where did Marian Ilyich Lupu take the stamps on Friday night or on Saturday if we presume that he collected the signatures on Friday afternoon and on Saturday morning given that he presented the signatures by Saturday noon already? This seems inadmissible to me,” he wrote.
Oleg Brega thanked the people for their support and for the signatures put in favor of him.
