Prosecutor Oleg Afanasii was appointed chief prosecutor of the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office, which he held on an interim basis since March 2020. A decision to this effect was taken by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP), IPN reports.
SCP president Angela Motuzoc in the Council’s meeting said that Oleg Afanasii was one of the candidates who competed for the post of chief of the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office.
Oleg Afanasii has worked in the prosecution service for 18 years, starting with 2005 in the municipality of Chisinau. Since March 2020 until present, he had managed the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office on an interim basis.
Oleg Afanasii said that after he was named interim head, he carried out an assessment and emphasized the necessity of a change. He proposed a concept for reorganization. “I continue to believe that at such an institution as the Chisinau Prosecutors’ Office, a policy to delegate a part of the powers to deputies needs to be implemented as this is a large institution with many employees. I think the strengthening of interaction between subdivisions will produce results,” stated Oleg Afanasii.
