An old man tried to commit suicide Tuesday November 14 jumping down from a bridge in the capital. Coordinator doctor of the Chisinau Emergency Service Evelina Rusu told Info-Prim Neo that the old man aged 70 jumped from Visterniceni bridge, approximately 14 meters high. The man survived but received brain injury and mental shock. Another case of falling from height has happened at a private construction on Independentei street. A 27-year-old young man fell 2 meters down suffering injuries to legs. A man aged 56 died while having lunch after choking on a piece of meat. Doctor Evelina Rusu says such cases become more frequent lately. To prevent a person die from choking, a helper should get behind the choking person and give a certain kind of quick squeeze just under the person's ribcage. This squeeze sends a quick, powerful burst of air from the person's lungs upward, dislodging the problem food or object and often sending it flying out of the person's mouth. The Emergency service in the capital registered Tuesday 634 calls, including 60 cases of trauma, 42 acute viruses, 5 brain ictuses. Out of the total number of calls, 113 children, including 20 infants, needed medical care.
