Old man almost completely burnt in a fire caused by a cigarette

A man aged 75 caused a serious fire in his apartment and suffered burns of 3rd degree on 95% of his body. The inspector of the Firemen and Rescuers Unity from Centru district, Liviu Merzancu told Info-Prim Neo that the tragedy happened on Sunday around 11.00 in the apartment block 3/1 on Miorita Street. The fire occurred because of man’s inattention while he was smoking. The cigarette fell on the bedclothes. At that hour, the victim’s wife wasn’t at home. The apartment, situated at the second floor, burned almost completely. The firemen managed to locate the fire, but the apartments from the inferior floors were flooded, because of a failure of the heating system’s pipes. The responsible persons from the Emergency Hospital declared that the old man was hospitalized in the Burns Center, but until now the man’s state of health is not known. Doctors say that the old man has Parkinson. In case the firemen and police find out that the fire was caused by the inattention of the owners, the neighbors who were affected can sue the guilty person in order to recover the material damage.
