“The Republic of Moldova’s application to join the EU is a historical step,” the Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciucă said after President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu signed the Republic of Moldova’s application for EU membership in the evening of March 3, IPN reports.

On his Facebook page, Premier Ciucă wrote that “Romania will continue to work alongside the Republic of Moldova on its path to the EU”.

The leader of the National Unity Party (PUN) Anatol Șalaru said that the filing of the application to join the EU in these difficult trims is a necessity and also an act of courage. “It won’t be easy, but for the first time since the declaring of independence, we have a chance to set off on another road than that of stagnation. In these hard times in which evil went wild, we should all be solidary and realize that the integration into the EU will not be easy and will not take place overnight,” Anatol Șalaru posted on Facebook. He noted that the people should support this approach and should prevent the East from thwarting this chance.

The Democratic Party of Moldova also welcomed the signing of the application. In a press release, the party said the Democratic Party has always been a faithful promoter of Moldova’s European course, contributing essentially to the implementation of the action plan of the Moldova - EU Association Agreement. “We realize that this very important action in the country’s history is only a first step in the difficult period of time that will follow and that should be marked by a lot of labor and consistency”.

The People Power Party congratulated the Republic of Moldova on this event. “This approach exerts enormous pressure on the current and future political classes as we have a long road to cover. Beyond strategies and reforms, the people should feel the results at grassroots level. Congratrulatrions, Moldova!”.

No other parties have yet stated their opinions on the issue officially.
