The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office announced it performed searches at two offices used by an unnamed prosecutor at the Prosecutor General’s Office. This comes after a witness complained that the prosecutor had forced him or her to give false testimony in a case.
The prosecutor in question was asked to voluntarily surrender relevant evidence, but he or she refused and the searches were ordered as a result.
According to media reports, the prosecutor in question is Vladislav Căruceru, the one who handled the case against Viorel Morari, the former head of Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. Căruceru is also the one working the Metalferos case. Recently there have been complaints that Căruceru was acting in complicity with a witness to acquire control over the scrap metal industry.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office later clarified that today’s searches are not in connection with the Morari case.
