Of the 60 medical workers confirmed to have with COVID-19, nine got infected while providing medical assistance to persons who got the novel coronavirus, the director of the National Public Health Agency was quoted by IPN as saying in a press briefing.
Nicolae Furtună said that four doctors, three medical assistants and two nurses were infected at the workplace. Four persons got infected in the family. In 26 cases, the virus was contracted in the community, while in 21 cases the source of infection could not be determined exactly.
According to the official, the risk of infection among medical workers is several times higher than among the population as the doctors travel daily to work and contact with persons who can be or are infected with the virus.
