“The nervous reaction of the Party of Socialists shows that a number of political players were actually put in a tight corner. When a boxer is in a corner, this always finds supernatural and greater powers. I think all the players in this situation realized that the method of action of this government is absolutely criminal and, beyond being criminal, it is in correlation with the Russian secret services,” unaffiliated MP Octavian Țîcu, who heads the National Unity Party, was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Fourth Power” on N4 channel.
Octavian Țîcu said that for Igor Dodon, the optimal formula for remaining President was to continue the alliance with the ACUM Bloc and to box the Government of Maia Sandu. The COVID-19 pandemic influenced considerably the events in Moldova, but the current Government ignored this fact.
As to Prime Minister Ion Chicu’s presence in Parliament, the MP said what was adopted as a result of the assumption of responsibility was a crime against Moldova’s budget and against the population. The agreed money does not exist and the state budget contains a gap of almost 20 billion lei.
“The budget revenues are catastrophic, the population is confused and things do not stand well at all. The only chance for everyone is for the Chicu Government to be removed this month and, as I proposed earlier, a form of government in two possible variants should be ensured: a minority government assumed by the ACUM Bloc, sported by the European powers and by Romania, or a technocratic government for which all the anti-Dodon components in Parliament would guarantee. There are two possible action variants here – some of the Democratic MPs or all of them will vote and negotiations with the Democratic Party will be held so that it forms part of a new government coalition. This means the new government will have 56 - 57 seats,” stated Octavian Țîcu.
The Government on July 9 assumed responsibility before Parliament for four bills that contain amendments to the annual budget laws. Under the amendments, the state budget costs will be increased by 1.273,3 billion lei. A sum of 469.6 million lei will be transferred to the state social insurance budget for paying 700 lei in support to about 660,000 pensioners with incomes lower than 3,000 lei a month (466.3m lei) and for paying allowances to the descendants of the healthcare workers who died from COVID-19 (3.3m lei). Another 428 million lei will be transferred to the mandatory health insurance funds.
