During the next two weeks, the National Unity Party (PUN) will remain firm in the commitment declared in the election campaign. The support of the PUN and Octavian Țîcu will be against Igor Dodon. The vote will be anti-Dodon, pro-Europe and pro-Romania. “In the November 15 presidential runoff, we will vote against Dodon, for Romania and for the Euro-Atlantic integration. This is the vote we want and will always promote and for which we will fight in the coming election campaign,” PUN leader Octavian Țîcu stated in a news conference.

IPN quoted Octavian Țîcu as saying it is regrettable that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova didn’t fully understand the PUN’s electoral program in this campaign and regrets that many unionists, for fear Igor Dodon could win by the first round, voted for Maia Sandu. “This way, you somehow weakened this unionist pole as, if we had voted politically with confidence for unionism and Romania, we would have been now the second party by importance on the political right,” stated Octavian Țîcu.

However, the PUN will contribute to the prestige of the pro-European challenger in the hope that it will not fully disappoint in its Romanian and pro-European aspirations. Octavian Țîcu called on all the unionist leaders to join the PUN in this struggle given that dubious political forces with criminal cases that they try to erase by involvement in politics appeared.

The politician also said that the result he achieved on November 1 is satisfactory for the National Unity Party. “We managed to assert ourselves as the most important unionist party and I think it is a clear signal for all the unionists in the Republic of Moldova, in Romania, in the diaspora that the future of the Romanian ideal and cause in the Republic of Moldova is near us,” he stated, thanking the over 27,000 voters who supported him (2% of the ballot) and noting that this vote is an important precondition for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
