Employers must assess the risks and take organizational measures so as to protect the employees’ health, to provide information and training seminars for employees, to supply the workers with personal protective equipment and to organize medical exams for employees who work in noxious and unfavorable conditions. Such activities recommended by public health specialists can prevent occupational diseases and can protect the employees’ health, IPN reports.
For their part, the employees must correctly use all the protection means and the personal protective equipment, must immediately inform the employer about the damaging of the protective equipment and must correctly use the machines and technical devices. The workers have the right to receive information about the risks related to health and safety, preventive and first aid measures and emergency procedures.
An occupational disease is any disease contracted primarily as a result of an exposure to risk factors arising from work activity. Such diseases result from a variety of biological, chemical, physical, and psychological factors that are present in the work environment or are otherwise encountered in the course of employment.
According to the National Public Health Agency, 887 occupational diseases were recorded in Moldova in 1991-2019. Most of the cases were logged in 1991 (102), while the lowest number in 2019 (1 case).
