Women who suffered as a result of the interaction with the perinatal sector of the health system of the Republic of Moldova signed a petition initiated on a social networking site by civic activist Anastasia Cucuruz. The petition will be submitted to the Government on January 9. The signatories call on the important institutions and senior officials, especially Prime Minister Pavel Filip, to order a broad inspection in the national health system, IPN reports.

“Time has come to change something. What is going on is extremely dangerous. These are not ‘cases’, but mothers whose life is divided into “before” and “after”. It is abnormal! Obstetrician violence in civilized countries is recognized as violence against women and is punished harshly!” wrote the initiator of the petition Anastasia Cucuruz.

The petition was launched after a young woman related on a social networking site how she had to give birth alone in the toilet of the Mother and Child Institute as a result of a recommended medical abortion in the 21st week of pregnancy owing to congenital malformation identified in the fetus.

The petition has been supported by a number of nongovernmental organizations, groups of citizens of the diaspora and the publication Ea.md, which launched a campaign in this regard: #Cumamnăscut.
