Artists, architects and everyone who is interested in the public areas of Chisinau can take part in the second edition of the Public Space Days that are mounted by the Oberliht Young Artists Association on September 13-17.

Sociologist Vitalie Spranceana, the Association’s representative, in a news conference at IPN said the intention is to put the urban public space to good use, to highlight the importance of this space for community, to identify the negative and positive changes of the last few years, to assess the impact of these changes on the quality of public space and to contribute to creating democratic public areas.

The program of the event offers a platform for discussion and action in the public space. This will bring together activists, persons in charge of the elaboration of policies, active citizens, intellectuals, architects and the general public for sharing opinions and reflections on the transformations taking place in the public space.

Another representative of the Association Anastasia Palii said the program will include a conference entitled “Common Goods in the City”, workshops on civic campaigns, collective activities and cartography, film screenings, visual arts exhibitions, a civic café meeting and public debates, a fair of cultural initiatives, etc.

The activities will be staged at the Zemstvei Gubernial House, the Café “Guguta” (central park of Chisinau), the Open Apartment (61 Bucuresti St), the State University of Moldova (Faculty of History and Philosophy), the Technical University of Moldova (Faculty of Urbanism and Architecture), and the Park “Zaikin”.

The event involves invitees from Romania, Ukraine, Poland, France and other countries. Romanian journalist Mihai Gotiu said a Corruption Tour is staged over the Prut to present the houses owned by politicians or the appropriated public areas. A similar initiative will be implemented this year in Chisinau.

The program of the Public Space Days 2016 is supported by the European Cultural Foundation as part of the Collective Action for Common Goods Project, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the Culture Division of Chisinau, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, and the organizations TANDEM Ukraine and Erasmus +.
