The energy crisis or humanitarian catastrophe witnessed today in the eastern region of the Republic of Moldova is the result of the actions taken by corrupt politicians in the government over decades. In the last 2-3 years, the Russian Federation has been waging a hybrid war on the Republic of Moldova, losing the first phase of it, but it yet counts on the 2025 parliamentary elections, Oazu Nantoi, MP of the parliamentary group of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), stated in a public debate hosted by IPN.

"We saw attempts to destabilize the political situation in Moldova through the so-called protests. We saw an aggressive campaign of criticism against President Maia Sandu, based on concepts of war, aggression, Ukrainian scenario or militarization. And we saw how the idea of the referendum was under attack," said Oazu Nantoi, noting that despite these facts, the Russian Federation lost the first phase of the hybrid war.

The PAS MP stated that the European path of the Republic of Moldova, to a large extent, depends on the partnerships between the President of the country and the Parliament that will be formed after the 2025 parliamentary elections. The energy crisis is one of the stages of the hybrid war initiated by Moscow. Russia is counting on "people dissatisfied with the increase in charges, the decrease in living standards and the higher inflation", who will vote for other political parties, among which will be "the Kremlin's projects under cover", explained Oazu Nantoi.

The Putin regime wants to have control over the Republic of Moldova in order to turn it "into a bridge of attack over Ukraine," said Nantoi. According to him, this happens also because important infrastructure projects pass through the common border of over 1,200 kilometers with Ukraine. Also, the Republic of Moldova borders NATO and the EU.

The MP noted that the energy crisis was triggered with the aim of causing chaos and burdening the Moldovan authorities with the problems of the left bank, when the leaders in Chisinau do not have access to the Transnistrian region. Once again, the EU lend a hand through the program that comes to ensure energy security in the Republic of Moldova.

The former engineer said that the energy blackmail of the Russian Federation reached a new level and this blackmail method must be stopped. At the same time, he drew attention to the notion of "humanitarian gas", used by Tiraspol, calling it "the Kremlin's corrupt business". He noted that the free resources that generated systemic corruption have been exhausted and both the right and the left banks must pay for gas.

As for the regime in the Transnistrian region, the MP said that it existed only due to free gas and concessions from the Moldovan authorities, under the pretext of the "negotiation process".

According to Oazu Nantoi, when talking about the conflict with the Transnistrian region, only the geographical area where there are problems is taken into account. However, what the real conflict with the Transnistrian region entails is, in fact, the conflict between the Republic of Moldova as a state recognized worldwide and the geopolitical interests of the Russian Federation.
